Will the MAC conference win three state championships?

Post by art08 »

Minster beat Kirtland, Marion Local is crushing St. Paul and Coldwater plays Canton Central Catholic tonight. Has this ever been done?

The MAC. a conference who plays ball and never do you hear their fans crying about playing private schools. Nor do they make excuses as why the private schools are better. They just beat them more times then not.

41-0 Public school annihilates the private school.

* Note sure if this was a regular public school or one of the open enrollment persuasion.

Marion Local has open enrollment but people in that area go to their local school. Open enrollment is different for rural areas compared to more populated areas.

The MAC is a great conference for sure with great community support.

But they could win 7 championships every year and it still wouldn't justify the competitive advantage some of these private schools have.

The multiplier is a step in the right direction. But imo it was implemented because the OHSAA feared the public schools were going to vote on a split. It isn't a serious fix just something to appease the AD's.

Imo, privates like Ursuline, Mooney, Biship Hartley, etc; should have to play up 2 divisions because that is where the talent level puts them.

They will take all 3 titles. Their conference brings out the best in each other. In SE Ohio that needs to happen more.
I see it in the SOC developing more each year. Valley needs a dominant offensive threat like ATHENS turned out to win a state title, imho. Outside of the region, they start to struggle. As long as there is a Mac improving each other, anyone in that conferences way, is @ a disadvantage.

My cousin posted on another site Coldwater led 41-7 at the half, so I think you can safely say "Yes."

Coldwater 62
CCC 21
Final

18 year playoff streak for Coldwater (longest current)
6 year streak making the finals
3rd straight title (5th overall)

SportsTime Ohio says this is the first time a conference has won 3 state titles in football in the same year

I'm guessing they probably have the same unfair advantages that Catholics have. Hopefully the multiplier applies to MAC schools when it goes into effect because it's not fair that public schools have to play really good teams from the MAC.

MAC schools are in an area where most people are Catholic. The change made for private schools may drop Coldwater down to division 6 which would prevent the MAC for a chance to repeat this impressive accomplishment.

wow this was a really good weekend of football. Watch all seven games and the Buckeyes kick butt too...wow..the MAC winning three state titles don't surprise me at all. When you have to play week in and week out you either get real good or go home.

Coldwater and Marion local are doing some form of recruiting. You can't win that many titles without having some advantage. Ironton, even in it's best years, only won two, and it was a lot harder back in that day. Tough for southern ohio teams to pull this off. Marion local and coldwater both could have won the d3 championships. I'm telling you that year in and year out, this can't be done without some sort of recruiting tactic. Go back and see when open enrollment was implemented then count how many championships those teams have won. I think the results would be eye opening.

How do you recruit a football team, a baseball team and a boys and girls bowling team and still stay a div5 school. Or a football and volley ball team and stay a div7 school. You can't, not year in and year out for 30 years and still be successful at it. Every school in the Mac has multiple state titles. They are just natural born athletes with amazing coaches and dedication. I loved seeing two private schools get smashed in the mouth this weekend by two different public schools. A few years back on a playoff talk show somebody was saying how it wasn't fair private schools were allowed in the same playoffs as public schools, another man stopped him mid sentence and said no "public schools just need to get better and beat them". The Mac has. They were out scored 103-21 this weekend in d5 and d7.

Where would Marion Local and Coldwater recruit kids from? Minster? Coldwater or Marion Local? They are in a rural area where they can't/don't recruit athletes from other schools. Maybe you should admit that they have better athletes, work harder and are more coachable than other teams.

I played college ball with a guy from Coldwater. I also coached against a friend in Eastern Ohio who became Minster's HC. Talked with these guys over the years and a pattern emerges -- the kids are white -- German -- Catholic -- most boys in school play FB -- coaching is superior -- and little problems with drugs. However alcohol and smoking are still popular. lol. There is no "recruiting" there. Most towns are farm communities of 1000- 2000, and jobs are farming, light manufacturing, retail and public employment . Those kids are born and raised there, few move-ins and transfers are rare. Yet they embrace competition and are the polar opposite of SEO. They beat up on private schools and have for years. Meanwhile some moron down on the Ohio River cries about getting too many tough teams on the schedule as you might not make the playoffs . That mindset is why some worthless teams get in on weak schedules and get blown out in the first couple of games by huge scores. That's also why several 5-5 and 6-4 teams get in and kick the crap out of some 9-1 or 8-2 teams. The MAC does it right and gets rewarded. SEO ?
