ARTICLE AND PICS"Harvest Prep 44 Danville 21

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night at White Field in Newark a round two playoff game took place, between the Danville Blue Devils and the up and coming Harvest Prep Warriors. Danville a longtime playoff veteran, who came in after losing a large senior class from their talented team in 2015, came with a,8-3 record. Some said going into the season that the Blue Devils were rebuilding, while others thought, this is Danville, they reload, not rebuild.

The Warriors, who did not have the playoff resume as Danville, but what they did have was a very talented team, who has a special player in Daniel(MR. 3000) Bangura. The talented Junior had over 3,000 yards as he and his teammates enter this contest, would leave needing less than 220 yards to reach 4,000 yards. The Warriors also entered this game, with a 8-3 record.

On the opening kickoff, the Warriors Earl Grant, would electrify the home side crowd, with some nifty moves and a lot of speed, as he took the ball to the Danville thirty-nine-yard-line. Prep has got to be the fastest team in division seven. The early momentum did not last long as the Warriors would see a third and ten pass attempt dropped by, Nijal Jackson. Jackson, a very soft-handed and talented player would have a rare drop, that saw him drop another pass or two.

The Danville defense would get a sack on senior quarterback,Jamal Lipsey , with 7:45left in the scoreless opening quarter. The loss would total ten-yards. Making the sack was Freshman Austin Colopy.

Daniel Bangura, would show needed only one block to bust off a long run, when he took off on a seven-eight-yard lighting quick touchdown. The point after kick by,#40 Jeffrey Ray ii was blocked by,Justus Brady to keep this ,6-0 Warriors lead, with 4:57 left.

Danville would respond with their first score at the 3:34 mark of the quarter, when Junior Skyler Durbin connected with Sophomore Corbin Hazen, on a sixteen-yard pass. The point after by Sophomore Reese Dorsey was good and gave the Blue Devils a,7-6 lead. The drive total sixty-nine-yards and total six-plays.

At the 2:31 mark the Warriors put the ball on the ground in what looked to be some trouble with the hand off and making the recovery for the Blue Devils was,Junior Seth Karn. The young Blue Devils early on minus two big plays were playing as well as anyone could have hoped they could against a team as talented as fast as the Warriors were.

Durbin, would show how dangerous, he can be running the ball to end the quarter, when he used a Herschel Walker type stiff arm, to spring himself to a big thirty-three-yard touchdown run. The point after kick gave Danville a,14-6 lead. The drive total, forty-three-yards and needed just three plays.

With 10:13 left in the half Brice Berger got to Bangura before he could turn up field and tackled him for a one-yard loss. The Danville defense had done a nice job of making the talented running back work hard after his long touchdown jaunt. Just sixteen seconds later the Warriors put the ball on the turf and it looked like Gunor Doretich of the Blue Devils came up with it.

Isaiah Mullens 6-6 / 255,who I have heard from several people at the games is a player who had ten division one college offers, would sack Durbin for a ten-yard loss, with 9:07 left in the half. Mullens wore number 98 tonight, where he has worn number 81, the last two weeks, that I have watched the Warriors play. From there the Warriors defense would not take long to get the ball back to their offense as they were able to force a Blue Devils punt.

Bangura, would use a Barry Sanders like spin move to gain twelve-yards at the 4:35 mark of the quarter. This kid has all of the moves and the speed to make the best of defenders look silly and it is a mystery as to why no division one schools have come after him. I have sent some info on him to four D-1 schools, hoping they might actually look at him. The eleven-play,sixty-one-yard drive ended when,Lipsey ran a bootleg type play, for an eighteen-yard score. Bangura would hit Savon Mitchell on a two point conversion pass to lock this one at fourteen, with 3:57 left in the half.

Durbin would be sacked again by Isaiah Mullens 6-6 / 255, for a three-yard loss and this forced another Danville punt on the next play.
The teams entered the locker, with the game still locked at fourteen.

With 9:09 left in the third quarter Bangura would get the Warriors on the scoreboard, with a seventy-four-yard touchdown run, He broke a tackle and then easily scored. He would be stopped on a two-point conversion run, leaving this a,20-14 Warriors lead. The drive totaled three plays and went for eighty-six-yards.

Bangura would use a stop and go move, that would have made Archie Griffin, proud on his way to a fifty-six-yard run, with 7:03 left in the quarter. The seven-play,seventy-seven-yard drive ended, on a two-yard Bangura run, then after a Bangura to Mullens two-point conversion pass, this was a 28-14 game.

With 2.43 left in the one-sided quarter Durbin would be picked off by,Savon Mitchell. Danville had gone for it on 4th and seven. The pick gave the Warriors the ball on their own thirty-six-yard-line.

Just six seconds into the final frame Bangura used his Barry Sanders like shake and bake move to score again. He then scored on a two-point conversion run to give the Warriors a,36-14 lead. The drive lasted for ten plays and totaled sixty-four-yards. Right about now you could feel the excitement on the home side of the stadium.

With 11:40 left in the contest Danville got a fine thirty-four-yard run by,Christopher Greenawalt. The drive ended with a one-yard run by Durbin. The point after cut the Warriors lead to,36-21. The Danville drive took eleven plays, while totally seventy-three-yards.

Bangura would use two runs to pick up forty-eight yards. The eleven-play,eighty-yard drive ended with a three-yard touchdown run by,Lipsey. Lipsey hit Mullens for the games final points with a two-point conversion pass to make this a,44-21 game.

Durbin was picked with 27.8 left by #5(NOT ON THE ROSTER I HAVE)
Harvest Prep would take a knee to end this playoff game.
