Last night in Logan the Wheelersburg Pirates battled the Ridgewood Generals in the second round of the Ohio high school playoffs. When all was said and done the Pirates would leave Logan a, 42-21 winner and out gain the Generals by 231 yards,unofficially.

The night started off strong for the Pirates, when #42 Clint Hatfield recovered a General fumble, with 9:46 left on the first quarter clock.

#21 Jordan Howard would take the ball down to the Pirates three as he used some back breaking work by his linemen, with 8:11 left.From there Howard plowed in from the three, with 7:30 left in the quarter.#25 Daylor Lewis easily nailed the point after kick to make this a,7-0 game.

With 4:30 left on the clock,#5 Tanner Bivens planted Billy Bailey into the turf, for a five yard loss.

After getting the ball back the Pirates got two nice runs from #22 Keaton Newsome to get the drive going. The drive though, would come to a quick close when,Abram Buckler sacked #2 Kyle Davis on a fourth and ten play.

The quarter ended with the Pirates nursing a,7-0 lead.

The Pirates closed a 14 play 80 yard drive, with a one yard,#32 Xander Carmichael run. The point after gave the Pirates a,14-0 lead, with 5:53 left in the half.

The Generals got a huge break when,Jhett Slusser's pass was tipped by a Ridgewood player and then was caught by Billy Bailey for a 30 yard gain, with 5:38 left on the clock.

Slusser would connect with Bailey on a fourteen yard strike, with 3:37 left in the half. The point after kick by,#17 Keith Claxon cut the Pirate lead to,15-7.

The Pirates put the ball on the ground with 2:41left in the half and making the recovery for the Generals was Trent Harrison , at the Pirates 47.

The Generals offense could not do anything after the fumble recovery and had to punt the ball away a short time later. On the punt, the Generals fumbled the ball again, the Generals Keith Leindecker came up with the ball, on the Pirates sixteen.

Three plays later Harrison would score on a eleven yard run. The point after kick locked this one up at 14 a piece.

The Pirates offense went to work with a little under a minute left in the quarter and a forty five catch by Jordan Howard got things started. Then it was a seventeen yard catch by,Xander Carmichael, with 40.7 seconds left.Kyle Davis would tack on twelve yards on another nice run, were the Pirates line showed their skills.The drive ended with a three yard run by,Keaton Newsome, at the 12.6 mark. The point after gave the Pirates a,21-14 lead.

Davis got things going for the Pirates in the third with a thirty five yard run. Then it was another first down run by,Jordan Howard, at the 10:25 mark of the third. The drive ended with a three yard Howard run. The point after kick made this a,28-14 game, with 8:45 left.

The Pirates got the ball back again and wasted no time going up,35-14. The scoring play was a Davis pass covering sixty seven yards to,Tanner Bivens. The clock showed 5:58 left in the third.

The Pirates found themselves facing a fourth and two with,2:12 left in the quarter and decided to go for it. The result was a sixteen yard run by Howard.Just when it appeared the Pirates was going to put together another scoring drive,Carmichael coughed up the ball and the Generals came out of the pile with the ball, with 1:50 left.

The Generals had to punt the ball away again , after the fumble recovery.On the return Keaton Newsome was stopped for no gain by,Javon Merrill, with 25.4 seconds left in the quarter.

Davis was picked off by Harrison, with 11;13 left in the game.

Harrison was hit hard by #31 Jake Darnell, after making a nice catch, with 10;20 left.

There would be two scores in the last 4:13 of the game.

The first came from the Generals, when Bailey hit pay dirt from two yards out. The point after made the score.35-21 Pirates.

The last score came from a nine yard run by the Pirates,Howard on a nine yard run. The point after kick ended the scoring, giving the Pirates a,42-21 playoff win.

A little shocked 89 views here and 82 on the huddle.
Yappi has had only 42.

Yappi as big as it is, is very small when it comes to the area these two fine schools arefrom.
