Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Earlier today I venture to Hilliard Darby high school to take in the week ten game between first year varsity team from New Madison, Ohio the Tri-Village Patriots, who was hosting Lutheran Eastm from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. This was not only my first trip to Darby, it was my first time watching both of these teams play. I had to clue to as how this one would go, but in looking at the records, I felt it would be a very good game.

Just 14 seconds into the game, Gavin Richards busted free for a 29-yard game. This was the first play from scrimmage for the Patroits and it brought there crowd to their feet. I thought it was so cool how so many of the fans in unison called out his name and others, when they made a nice play.
With 10:26 showing on the clock,Richards used a stop and go move to pick up 17 more yards to give his team another first down. The 6-play,60-yard drive would end on a 2-yard run by Jonny Wilson, to make this a,6-0 game. The point after kick by,Richards was low and blocked and the score stayed,6-0, with 9:47 left in the opening quarter.

After making quick work of the Falcons offense, the Patriots offense looked to keep things moving in a positive way. nd that was just what it appeared they did at the 7:21 mark of the quarter, when Wilson connected with Richards on a long gain, but an holding call negated the big gain. The Patriots brushed the mishap off, with a 41-yard touchdown run by Jared Buckley. A two-point conversion run by,Wilson was successful and the score increased to,14-0, with 6:33 left in the quarter.

Mason Sullenbarger got to Falcons quarterback, Mark Mccary for an 11-yard loss. On the roster Mccary is listed as a fullback. Facing a third and 21, the Falcons used a Kaylin Heard , 32-yard run to move the chains. Heard listed as a quarterback on the roster, was a mean tailback in this one. At the 4:34 mark of the quarter, Heard sprinted to a 16-yard yard gain, as he began to show a skill level, that no one else on the field seemed to have. The drive continued to move downfield, on a 10-yard pass from Mccary to Marvell Harrison. That play gave the Falcons a first and goal from the 8-yard line and from there Mccary hustled in for the score, with 3:37 left on the clock. A two-point conversion run by Aviyon Fitz made this a,14-8 game.

The Wilson to Richards combo struck again, this time for a 31-yard gain, with 55.8 left in the quarter.

Just seven seconds into the 2nd quarter, the Patroits would end their,7-play,64-yard drive, with a 21-yard pass from Wilson to Bruner. A bad snap aided to the kick by, Buckley to come up a little short, leaving the score,20-8.

A 25-yard gain by Heard, followed shortly by a 33-yard run by Mccary got the Falcons offense going in a hurry. It looked like Heard was going to be nailed for a big loss, but an last second throw to Ivan Percy jr. went for a 26-yard score, but a illegal guy down field was called against the Falcons taking away the brilliant play made by Heard. The drive continued and with 7:53 left in the half, Mccary connected with Aviyon Fitz, on a 4th and ten call, for a 30-yard pick up, all the way to the Patriots 5-yard line.
From there the Falcons would lose 3-yards when,Caleb Smith teamed up with Sullenbarger, to take down Heard, with 6:31 left. Then Heard would lose five-yards when he was slammed down by, Buckley,Richards and Jackson Plush, with 6:15 left. Another loss followed at the 6:09 mark when,Mccary was dropped by,Camren Munchel. The drive ended with a Mccary pass being picked off by,Dalton Stephens at the 5:37 mark.

The Falcons offense was back on the field with 1:34 left in the half and they were facing a 3rd and 18 situation, a 21-yard completion from Mccary to Marvell Harrison, moved the chains. With 1:08 left a halfback pass thrown by, Heard to Mccary picked up another Falcons first down. The 8-play,53-yard drive ended on a 15-yard Heard run.Mccary would dive in for the two-point conversion, to make the score,20-16, with 1:02 left in the half.

Not getting out of third and long would make for a very long day for the Falcons and added to the pain their fans felt each time this took place.

Richards took off on a 44-yard touchdown run for the Patriots, with 46.1 left on the clock, but a illegal block in the back and a personal foul was called taking away the long Patriots touchdown.

Just :52 seconds gone in the third quarter, Dagan White forced a Mccary fumble, that #58 from the Falcons recovered.

The scoreboard moved again with 10:57 left, when Buckley scored on a 55-yard run. Wilson and Richards teamed up for a two-point conversion pass to make the score,28-16.

Mccary, would pick up 38-yards to give the Falcons a first and ten on the Patroits 26-yard line, with 5:49 left in the third, but the drive faltered a little later, and the Falcons turned the ball over on downs.

The game had 5:53left in it when, #68 of the Patriots got Mccary for a big 11-yard loss.
Mccary would hit Heard for a huge,81-yard pick up all the way down to the Patriots 1-yard line, with 4:54 left. From there Mccary walked in for the score. Harrison was stooped on a two-point try, leaving the score,28-22.

With 2:37 left Mccary fumbled the ball, only to have teammate Myles Sidney recovered it. 32 seconds later Mccary connected with Heard for a big first down, on a 3rd and 17 call. With 1:02 left facing a 3rd and nine, the Falcons again moved the chains, with a Mccary scramble, after he found nobody opened. With 52.7 seconds left in the game a diving touchdown catch by Aviyon Fitz locked this one up at 28. A two-point conversion run by Mccary was easily stuffed, leaving this game tied.

Fitzed picked off a pass with 45.6 left in this one to give his offense one final chance to get the win. The Patriots defense held true and to overtime we would go.

The Falcons would take the lead on a 21-yard Heard score after a two point conversion was successful, this was a 36-28 game.

The Falcons defense held strong for, four plays to secure the win in overtime.
