This was game one of two at Welcome stadium and it pitted two Dayton high schools against each other. Meadowdale, who entered 2-6, on a three game losing streak. A streak that had seen them outscored, 122-0. Thurgood Marshall came into this one,3-5 and winners of two of their last three. In those three games they had outscored their opponents, 90-48. This one did not promise to be much of a game if one looked at the last few games played by each team. Overall, at least record wise it had a slim chance to be a good one.

The game opened up with # 10 from Thurgood Marshall (Not on the roster)getting a pick at the Meadowdale thirty-three-yard-line.
This was a sign of how this game was going to go for Meadowdale.

The Cougars needed just three-plays to go the thirty-three-yards needed for their first score. The score came on a nice by Jordan Watts, from two-yards out. #26(Not on the roster) was good on his point after kick, making this a,7-0 game, with 11:12 left in the opening quarter.

Meadowdale would get a nice looking completion from Elijah Carson to Jatevion Hayes, good for a gain of twenty-five-yards, with 10:59 left in the quarter. From there #6(Not on the roster) picked up a first down run to the Marshall forty-one-yard-line, with 10:38 showing on the clock. From there the Marshall defense tightened up and forced a short punt.

Marshall would go to the air for a forty-two-yard gain, with #16(Not on the roster) connected with Dari'juan Stroud, at the 5:58 mark.
The drive ended when, #29(Not on the roster) scored from a yard out. The point after kick made this a,14-0 game. The drive went for fifty-none-yards and took seven-plays.

On the ensuing kickoff Jonte Tinsley took the ball to the house, from about ninety-yards out, but a block in the back negated the score.
The drive ended as quickly as it began and another short punt followed.

With 1:28 left in the quarter Dawon Smith recovered a Marshall fumble on a bad hand off, to give the Lions offense another chance to do something positive with the ball. The offense would try and go to the air with :42 showing on the clock, but the pass thrown by Carson was intercepted by Mylan Howard 6-4 / 295, defensive tackle, who took the ball to the Meadowdale twelve-yard-line.

Just three seconds later, Dari'juan Stroud plowed in for a two-yard score. The point after kick was good to make this a,21-0 game.

The two teams went scoreless in the 2nd quarter, with defense being a force for both.
With 9:50 left Jordan Watts was taken down for a three-yard loss by two of the Lions defenders, Jermaine Graves and Kaveon Williams.
The clock read 1:36 when Williams sacked the Marshall quarterback and force a punt. The Meadowdale offense would get a twenty-two-yard run by, #24(Not on the roster) with :47 left in the half.

The third quarter had one score and that was by Marshall, when Justin Jeferson ended a nine-play,fifty-eight-yard drive, with a one-yard run, with 4:28 left. The point after kick was good to make this a,28-0 game.

With 3:50 left in the quarter James Taylor picked up, twenty-nine-yards to pick up a first down and give the Lions a little hope to end the shutout. With 1:06 left Taylor picked up a first down on a third and one call, with a short run. The quarter ended with the Lions moving the ball and looking pretty good in doing so.

Just ten seconds into the final frame,Carson threw up a prayer and it was picked off by Tommy Richardson, ending the Lions hope of getting on the scoreboard on this drive.

Facing a third and thirteen, with 7:28 left in the game, Jordan Watts took the ball all the way to the Lions thirty-two-yard line and gave the Cougars another first down. The clock showed 6:26 left and once again the Cougars were facing another fourth down and needed five-yards to move the chains. The coaching staff elected to go for it and that decision was made good, when Watts picked up seven-yards to move the ball to the Meadowdale eighteen-yard-line. with 6:26 left. With 6:00 left #10 (Not on the roster) gave the Cougars a first and goal at the Lions one-yard line, with a leaping catch.
