Logan didn't play past week 2 in '78 due to a teachers strike.

But Logan was going to be lucky to win a game that season. Ironton was probably better off not playing the game b/c the Harbin points take into account playing less than 10 games.
locos tell your family I said hi. and thank you so much for your hospitality the year that me and my friend came up there. it was a very good night of friends/fellowship

Early 1950's Chauncey Dover is right with 2014 Athens. Dover played small schools but never lost for a very long time. Hubert Bobo and Joe Burrow in their era's were the best. Both went to The Ohio State. Bobo won a national title. Hopefully Burrow does the same

NY's State Championship team in 81.
However I have been told that the team in 1980 might have been better. (The coach ran his son too much)
Also the 82 team made it to the final 4.

[quote="TRENCHFOOT"]Good question, I can't think of any. It was a shame though, back then only 4 teams made the playoffs. Don't know how the regions worked backed then but Logan ended up that year 8th in the State in AAA and didn't make it in. They was way better than 8th Imo.[/quote

Kinda like this year Logan's opponents didn't give them much help that year, they finished 8th in their region over 40 points out of 1st.

Can't blame that on school size though back then really/strength of schedule.   So the others must not have won much then. Ironton was double A and was good. Hilliard was triple A I believe and won some games. Weird stuff back then. Still think The 77 Chiefs would have made some big noise if they would have made it in. Solid team and was loaded for bear.

Thanks, great info and love to hear about the history.
I played for Mr. Chancey and even though I'm much younger Ive met and heard of most of those guys. I work with several guys that use to work with Perry and they always talk about what a tough man he was, never got to meet him but knew his boys.

The 1989 title season for burg of course. This year's team is one of the best teams I've seen at burg in a long time. Both sides of the ball is crazy.

I honestly think we could give coldwater a game should the two meet

The 2014 Athens team is the best to ever come out of SE Ohio imo. Some of the other teams mentioned may have been more physical but they wouldn't have handled the Athens athletes in space.

Logan might have 5 years to pick from as better team. Lot depends on who has been able to watch each team. It really doesn't always depend on how far you went on the amount of games. Also are we talking about team or class. Example Logans team with Gasser/Hummel finished 10 and 0 but some of that team went something like 7 and 3 the next year. The Conrads may have went 12 and 1 with the next year going undefeated in the regular season. A two year team having a 20+ win record.

I would put up a couple great Ironton teams against Athens. Not saying what team would win but The Ironton teams would have beat the Athens team up during the first three quarters where the Bulldogs would be unable to keep up. At the same time the Tigers might have been gassed with Athens game.
