Yesterday at Nelson Field Bellaire and Martins Ferry hooked up for the 110th time on the football field. The Purple Riders have been the dominating team in this series as of late and when this one ended, that domination would have continued.

The game got started with a near miss for the road team,when Andrew Hython just missed getting a pick six, on a play he read as easily as a player can read a play. From there Bellaire would run two more plays, gaining no yards and then punted the ball away.
That first series set the tone for the Bellaire offense, who would only gain a total of 138 yards for the entire game.


This was the third time this season I have watched Bellaire and the wing and a prayer type offense continues to take big steps backwards, killing any chance of the three games being competitive. The defense for Bellaire seems to give good effort, but they do not have the strength or conditioning to make up for the mistake prone offense.

At the 9:47 mark of the quarter Kylil Bass picked up 22 yards for the Purple Riders on a nice catch and run. Making the stop for Bellaire was Thor Duffy. The promising drive ended when,Grant Gheen picked off a pass, with 6:12 left in the quarter.

Tyson Camsky was leveled by Purple Riders safety, Kylil Bass for a short loss at the 5:15 mark of the quarter. From there the Big Reds got a nice gain from,Sheldon Lekanudos, who broke a tackle on 4th and 1 to pick up a first down,with 1:41 left in the quarter. The drive fizzled out a short time later and the Purple Riders offense went to work.

with :33 left in the scoreless quarter, Arjay Burress used a big hole opened up by his line to pick up 13 yards.

Martins Ferry jumped in front, 6-0 on a 1 yard run by Andrew Hython as he easily scored thanks to the work of his strong offensive line. The point after kick by, Matt Barbour was no good, leaving this a, 6-0 game, with 11:56 left in the half.

Bellaire got a 15 yard run by,D'eondre Burney, with 11:46 left in the half, when he broke left and headed toward the sideline. This was one of the few big plays the Bellaire offense would get in this one. With 10:47 showing on the clock, Matt Barbour leveled Bellaire's Camsky for a short loss, with a big hit. The biggest play of the game for Bellaire came on a 74 yard run by Burney, with 9:41 left in the half, he was brought down on the play by,Andrew Hython.

Martins Ferry would get a 5 yard scoring run with 7:25 left in the half by, Hython. A two point conversion try was successful on a run by,Burress, making this a,14-0 game.

Mason Ramsey Bellaire's quarterback was sacked by Jacob Johnson for a 5 yard loss. The Purples Rider defensive line was having an easy time in this one as the strength difference was showing a lot in this one.

The Purple Riders ended a 8 play drive when,Cory Bennett scored on a 55 yard pass play. The point after kick was good, making this a, 21-0 game, with 1:38 left in the quarter.

11:41 was left in the third when Hython picked up 22 yards on a sweet running play that happened thanks to nice work by the dominating offensive line. At the 7:55 mark of the quarter James Edwards connected with Dalton Hoover for a 15 yard gain giving the road team another first down. Making the stop for Bellaire was, Justyn Keyser and Derek Schybal. The 12 play drive came to a close with 6:11 left in the quarter when, Burress scored from four yards out. After the point after kick the score ballooned to,28-0.

Matt Barbour picked up two tackle for losses when he got to Camsky at the 5:49 mark of the quarter and again at the 5:00 mark. The first loss was for 3 yards and the last one was for 2 yards. Then at the 3:58 mark Martins Ferry got a pick six by, Hython. The point after kick made this a,35-0 score.

Martins Ferry would go for it on 4th and short on their end of the field and the Bellaire defense, who continued to play hard got a big stop and got the ball back for its struggling offense.

The shutout was avoided when, Ramsey found Noah Harris on an 8 yard touchdown pass. Ramsey ended the scoring when he hot the point after kick, making this a 35-7 game, with :55 left.
