What a game! Huge win to start the year for Waverly. Granville was a very good team, they were fast and athletic at every spot. Each team had their fair share of mistakes, which isn’t shocking with it being the first game with limited pre season and each opposing team was good.

The Tigers D actually played pretty well for the most part, for as much as they were on the field. They gave up a few big plays but they got the job done. The pass rush was huge tonight, pressuring the qb multiple times which resulted in some bad decisions by him. Futhey and Crabtree at ends are a mean combo. Then add in when they bring Zeke on a blitz, he is an absolute athletic freak.

Offensively the Tigers struggled at times. Shanks didn’t play his best game. But I don’t expect that to be a trend going forward. He still had many nice passes and a few good runs. The line played pretty well for the most part. Would have liked to see the running game get established a little earlier than it did. Waverly used a combo of 3 backs throughout the night with Hurd, Poe, and Stulley. Poe took most of the carries at the end of the game. Stulley ran the ball well and Hurd didn’t look bad. I think Hurd will look better once he gets more comfortable, he had to be nervous being a freshman on this team going against such a hard opponent off the rip. With so many weapons outside, I think the run game will be fine.

The Tigers will have huge moment going into league, kinda feels off jumping into league games this early. They will host West this coming Friday.

With the win last night, I believe this could potentially help Waverly tremendously when it’s time to vote for seedings.

Great win for the Tigers! That’s one that really should help greatly for seeding.

Shanks being able to run just a little helps a lot. He had the 2 short TD runs and they should give him just a couple more during the game just to keep defenses honest so they don't sell out on stopping the RBs or on double covering the receivers. He doesn't need a lot of carries, just a few at the right times.

Shoemaker is definitely missed. Both of them.

Granville's QB (7), RB (8) and WR (11) are outstanding.

4th down conversions and red zone opportunities were the two areas that stand out with those stats. Most other stats were very similar.

Waverly home games are being streamed on:

http://portal.stretchinternet.com/waver ... Type=video

The cost is $10/game or $50 for the season. One can also re-watch the games after conclusion. I just watched the Granville game, and it was very well announced.

I'm sure Granville's coach would like a couple of play calls back during their last drive.
1. After a run up the gut with the QB on 1st down for 3 you force Waverly to use their 1st TO with approximately 2:25 left. Running up the middle was getting you 3-5 Lionel Ritchie (All Night Long). Good Call, 2 more like this and you likely get the 1st down ballgame over.
2. On 2nd and 7 play action rollout. Play looked to be designed to hit TE on a delay only if wide open and for the QB to run it otherwise. Play is defended well and QB is forced to run but loses 2 yards. 3rd and 9, Waverly calls 2nd TO with approximately 2:16 left. Takes running up the middle for a first down out of the equation.
3. 3rd and 9 drop back pass that is almost intercepted. Incomplete pass, Waverly saves a TO.
This leads to a shanked punt. Waverly gets it around the 35, Granville was at Midfield due to the onside kick attempt. On a 3rd and 10, Waverly makes a catch on the sideline around the 20 with about 30 seconds left. They are a yard short and the clock is running. Without a TO, they probably rush a play and still don't snap it until the 20-15 second mark. Instead Waverly uses last TO, completes a pass to Zeke the Freak around the 7 and out of bounds. Two plays later, ballgame over.

We were saying the same thing in the press box.
