Athens played Canal in 2016 and 2017. They cancelled for 2018 and 2019 to play and beat the new Olentangy for their non league game. So happy they went 9-1 and missed the playoffs

Almost sounds like Athens, except Canal Winchester went to a better conference and Athens went to one with a bunch of schools two or three divisions smaller than they are. Cut-and-run.

Yup, they're beating me up in my various posts above but don't have a clue about reality.

Nope but I also think Purple & White is prettier than Green & Gold !!!!! (I might have to make the trip down to the Plains this year to take this one in. Haven't seen a game of old SEOAL opponents since Meigs @ Logan 2 years ago. It should be a good money maker game and I can check out this Joey Moore kid at qb everyone is raving about).

When the SEOAL was formed Logan was not the biggest school. When the TVC was formed Athens was the bigger school, even though Athens wasn't in it. But when they went in there was no school bigger than Athens and they are still the bigger school. My two cents.

The league actually started in 1925 with Athens, Gallipolis, Ironton, Jackson, Logan, Nelsonville, Portsmouth and Wellston. Enrollment figures are probably lost to time but population figures for each city at that time are as follows from largest to smallest:
Portsmouth- 36k, Ironton-15k, Athens-7k, Gallipolis-7k, Jackson-6k, Logan-6k, Nelsonville-6k and Wellston-6k.
(Notes: Athens left league for 2 yr. in 29 and returned in 31 and Logan was not the only high school in Hocking county back then as they had other township high schools and Logan's original nickname up until the mid 30's was not the Chieftains but was "The Battling Miners")

Logan was always bigger than Athens. Athens was its biggest in 1970’s. In 1978 Athens was 270. Logan was 330. In 1990 was 220 and Logan was 330. Today Athens is 200 and Logan is 300.

Athens was D4 in the 1960’s

Yeah. They have a pretty nice sports complex not at the high school. We played them 5 or so years ago at Ohio University
