Defense has good pash rush and coverage, but the run defense was not quite up to Chieftain norms.

Offensively, we need a better rushing attack. I have no problem seeing Angle drop back or scrammble, but I would like to see more traditional Logan alignments as well. Some Pro/Con-I would look good. Bring back the "Ol half back over the tackle" every now and then.

Now I know Logan ran Power I at the end of the Lancaster game and it worked exceptionally well, but we need more of it throughout the game, not just draws.

I think it's early to tell what the defense is going to bring to the table. Logan actually did a better job against Lancaster on Friday night than they did in '07 or '06 (the last two times Lancaster ran the wing-t). In fact, it was 2-yards per carry better.

As for the offense, I wouldn't change a thing at this point. I don't believe you can be a "spread" team and an "I" team. You have to choose one route and base most of your offense around it. Against a team like Lancaster that will be bigger and stronger, and perhaps faster, an I-formation offense is going to be difficult to run.

People seem to forget that Logan ran for over 150 yards per game last season out of the spread, and that includes all the lost yardage from QB sacks. Throw in 250 yards passing per game and you have a pretty potent offense.

When you have a quarterback who can make excellent quick throws and receivers who can get into open space and make catches, you are very dangerous. It's almost impossible to defend a quick short passing game when the offense executes.

Found a link to another preview of this game.

http://thisweeksports.ourvarsity.com/sc ... hp?ID=4257

Logan averaged more than 31 points a year ago, but North is hoping to control the ball and the clock, as it did against the Irish. Matt Ferguson had 23 rushes for 125 yards and Gianni Lynch added nine rushes for 56 yards and one touchdown. Shomari Smith also saw time in the backfield.

"I thought we really brought intensity and that finish attitude (against Scioto)," Phillips said. "We have the five blockers coming together and we only have one (Shaeffer) who is going both ways.

..............

I would like to see Logan throw deep early & often. Then run wide, pitch wide, use the speed to get away from the PN front 7. Logan's FB blocking will be crucial, picking up a blitzer. Angle will need to throw on target.

Three players from Grove City along with the head coach went there. One of the players is a D-1 college type player. I can not remember who is looking at him.
