Keep you eye on River Valley's freshman thrower Eric Weber. He will open some eyes and surprise a few people with his technique and knowledge of the throws.

That's pretty impressive! As long as he gets stronger and learns more and more about the technique he could be very good!

That will be no problem, he has two of the best throwing coaches in Southeastern Ohio. His grandfather, who coached his uncle to three Ohio High School state championships and his uncle who is the throws coach at the University of Rio Grande.

Who was the state champ? Just curious. My nephew threw in high school and now a college thrower so I like to follow. Thanks.

Grace22, Eric's uncle who helps him and is the throwing coach at the University of Rio Grande is Burt Wood. Burt was a three time state champion, two discus and one shot put and placed in the state three years, 1994, '95 & '96, only missing going to the state his freshman year. Also, held the state (not state meet) record for 10 years.

From OakHill watch Smith in 100 m and 400m and Hughes 110m hurdles. Both can suprise you against older talent.

Eric Weber hit 120'3" at the Meigs Relays this evening, season best to date. Still looking to better that distance in the next few weeks.

Ok Yes I've heard the name. Should have realized when you said he was at Rio Grande. Wasn't thinking. My nephew was a two time state champion and state runner up in the discus. He also missed going his freshman year by about a foot. Thanks for replying.

Jenny Seas of Peebles is a freshman this year and a favorite to win the 3200 at the state meet. She won the District by a lap as the second place girl was just starting her last lap as Seas was finishing the race. She's ran a 10:54 this year and can go faster as she's never been challenged this year in a meet. Also, her two older brothers finished first and second in the 3200 in the District meet.

Jenny is an unreal runner! She will probably have her closest race of the season at regionals this week against Edwards from Fairfield Christian. Edwards has run an 11:13 this year. But still a considerable amount behind.

Although not from S E Ohio, Cole Laroche from Bellaire has put the shot 52' 31/2. Cole weighs 185. Unfortunately he injured himself before the district and was unable to throw.

Brady Jones from Nelsonville-York will be a solid sprinter. He has done pretty well in middle school and his upside as an athlete is big.

Kassidy Betzing from Meigs had a a gear at season in long jump with her pr of 17'10" coming at regionals and then jumping 17'2" at states getting 7th. Having a near Olympic level long jumper as a coach makes her potential endless. Matthew Jackson from Meigs also had a good freshman year throwing 121'7". Good hardworking kid with lots of potential.
