Re: Week#8 Vinton county @ River Valley

PE -- There are probably only a couple of people on PREPS who know Sparling better than I do (I don't know if Fred and Chuck are on here), and I'm gonna suggest that having a three children aged five and under played no minor role in his decision. Father/husband trumps football coach in most cases. ...

Re: Week#8 Vinton county @ River Valley

Gonna throw this out there... In 2016, the Raiders ran variations of GAP schemes (Power O, F Counter, or Dart) on 218-of-353 running plays (62%). They also ran 22 wedge plays that year. With those calls added in, 68% of the run game was inside. We did not use inside or outside zone that season. Ofte...

Re: Gallia new football field?

^^^^
Many of the biggest organizations in Gallia County are in less than beautiful financial positions.

URG has made cuts; Holzer is mentioned above. My understanding is that the Gallipolis City School District is not exactly sitting pretty.

They are responding, by being injured.

Re: Is Eight Man Football Coming to a School Near You?

I think we have eight separate districts in Scioto Co. , not including the community school in Sciotoville and Norte Dame.

Re: Is Eight Man Football Coming to a School Near You?

Consolidating schools within the same district is one thing (like in WV where each county is a single school district, or when Gallia County rolled the four high schools into one at River Valley.) Not so easy when they are independent districts (like Clay and New Boston). That edict would have to be...

Re: Is there a correlation between having "older players" and success

I don't know about anybody else... I played my last high school game at age 17 years and five weeks (I was 16 for half my senior season). I was 235 and only ran about 5.4 in the 40. Two years after that, I was 255 and my 40-time had dropped to around 5.0-5.1. My strength levels were also much higher...

Re: Millersport

According to OHSAA, Millersport has 74 boys in the school. South Gallia has 80 boys, and I don't think SG could field both a soccer team and a football in the fall. Millersport is a small, tight district with a pretty decent standard of living (very close to the state average median). I imagine that...

Re: Chip Otten: The Keys To A Successful High School Football Program

Keys to success in high school sports 1. Be a school district with a lot of kids per square miles 2. Middle class two parent households 3. In an area where the other schools suck at sports or full of drugs. This is big for Jackson football, Wheelersburg, and Warren basketball 4. Good coaching I wou...

Re: Gallia Academy Football 2018 thoughts

Having female athletes in the weight room at the same time as the males is only a problem if it is allowed to be.

If the coaches give all the athletes the same degree of attention and demand a culture of hard work and respect, it goes very well.

"Recruiting" is such an ugly word... Regardless, I think it would be pretty silly to argue that Campbell didn't make a very significant impact upon the GAHS program upon arrival. Good luck to the kid. Intense, emotional kid, but I never had any problems with him in the limited contact I ha...
