Re: WEEK 8 -- 4-3 COAL GROVE @ 5-2 IRONTON -- BORDER WAR SPECIAL
Going with the Tigers in this one but it will be a hard fought victory. I remember watching a lot of Coal Grove games in the early 70's and they always played tough and still do. These last 3 games will be a test of just how much the Tigers have improved and hopefully keep building on next year.

Re: Gallia on top of the world
The Tigers and Blue Devils will be a show down of their old SEOAL days. Different coaches and different times but still a big game for both teams as they had been in the past. I give tthe edge to the Tigers at home as they continue to improve with each game. I am glad to see the Blue Devils back and...

Re: importance of having a good kicker.
The kicker on the 1978 Ironton team had field goals of 29, 31 and 45 yards. The 45 yarder was at Jackson. He was a 3 step straight on kicker. 16 years old that season.

Re: Gallia new football field?
The problem with Fairland is that a lot of their residents are professionals that work in Huntington so there is no real sense of community. I agree the Dragons and Blue Devils deserve new football fields. Their success brings in money and both teams have made significant improvements in just the pa...

I remember that apartment. I always found it odd that several adult males lived there.

Holy crap. It's 2018 and there are still people that believe refs cheat for Ironton at home. That is just as ridiculous now as it was 40 years ago. Give it up already.

Re: Gallia Academy (5-1) @ Coal Grove (4-2)
Glad to see the Blue Devils back on track. Beating the Hornets on their field is no easy task as they always play hard. If the Tigers and Blue Devils keep winning, their match up should have a '70's SEOAL feel to it. Good times.

Re: Indications Point To The Elimination Of The High School Football Kickoff
I've seen just as many big hits on punts than I have on kickoff returns, probably more. The punt returner is on an island by themself and a perfectly timed defender can really lay a hit on them. Makes no sense to me. Soon it will be 7 on 7 because the less players on the field, the less injuries. Th...

I'm going with the Hornets in this one but it is great to see the Blue Devils back on track. I remember their SEOAL days under Bill Trent. They were always a physical team.

I have to go with the Tigers in this one because they are undefeated. They will remain undefeated until someone defeats them. Ancient Chinese proverb.

Re: IRONTON'S BEST ALL TIME RB'S ?
Alfonso was a sophomore on the 73 Tigers AA finalist team. Backfield was him, Terry Mowery and Bruce Carter. Bruce had two incredible runs for TD's that game. Both were on kickoff/punt returns. Can't remember which. They lost to an all male private school, Cleveland Benedictine 38-13, Mowery was th...

Bacon for me too. I remember our nose guard knocked him out cold during the 81 season. He was laying on the field motionless for what seemed like an eternity, his mom and dad were even on the field. Smelling salts finally brought him back but it was shocking to see a beast like him laying there lik...

Re: 2018 Ironton @ Wheelersburg Football
Both teams have had many years of success between them. It is okay to talk smack before the big game, but real rivals respect their opponent regardless. I am happy for the Burg's success and I hope they continue to be successful in their move to region 20. I have been and will always be a Tiger fan....

Re: 2018 Ironton @ Wheelersburg Football
As a Portsmouth alumnus, even I have to admit that the Trojans don't belong in the same football conversation as Ironton and Wheelersburg. We have been sporadically successful at times, but at other times plain awful. The Fighting Tigers and Pirates have much greater playoff resumes than does Ports...

Re: 2018 Ironton Fighting Tigers The Pendleton Era
7 on 7's & scrimmages are good for gaining some game experience. But the real purpose of a scrimmage is making sure you get good looks at all positions including backups to make sure you have the skill and talent in the right place. A win is not as important as getting the kids in the right plac...

Re: Surprise team in 2018
What is shameful is that Ironton has gone from an "expected to be good" team to a "surprise if they are good" team. I hope the Pendleton era gets off to a good start. I am not expecting perfection overnite but incremental improvements would be much welcome. Attitude is the key.
