Re: 12/13 Wheelersburg @ Ironton

There's nothing wrong with a 5-out open offense, and you can no doubt win with that. It is the direction that basketball is headed in modern times - positionless, fast, shooting threes and layups. Contested twos are the worst shot in basketball, and that has been statistically proven. Wheelersburg j...

Re: Reg 19 #6 Ironton (7-3) @ #3 Coshocton (8-1)

Cal Preps handicaps it Coshocton 28, Ironton 14. Most recent data shows Cal Preps correctly picking Ohio high school football winners at a clip of about 84%. With that kind of success rate and the Redskins giving a robust 14 points, that makes Ironton a pretty decided underdog. Games are won on the ...

Re: WK10 Ironton (6-3) @ Portsmouth (6-3)

It's called Tiger envy. It would be interesting to see whether Ironton or Wheelersburg threads get more clicks on this board over time. I think the Wheelersburg posters' unique obsession with Ironton puts Ironton over the top. Of course, ole Bait's one-man loyalty program don't hurt either! :D

Re: WEEK 1 IRONTON @WHEELERSBURG -- YOUR THOUGHTS.

As an Ironton fan, let me just say this: Wheelersburg is today one of the elite football programs in southeastern Ohio. The Pirates play the sport at a higher level than Ironton currently. Ironton is a good program, having won 63% of its games over the last decade, and earning a playoff berth in 8 o...

Re: 12/28 (3-4) Ironton vs (7-1) minford @portsmouth

What will 2016 bring for Ironton? Ironton has spent much of December trying to determine its strengths, while the coaching staff molds them into a well-drilled unit. This has required patience due to the number of newcomers, including 3-4 freshmen getting significant playing time. While the win colu...

Re: Ironton vs Columbus Eastmoor start times

Nice start for the young Fighting Tigers. Eastmoor was a big and athletic team, with no starter standing less than 6-3. Ironton's inexperience (60% of scoring from freshmen) will cause this year's squad to experience some hills and valleys over the course of the season, but it is always nice to beat...

Re: Burg Freshman

Tanner's dad, Rodney Holden, was a very talented player for Marshall back in the mid-1980's who helped the Herd to its last two trips to the NCAA tournament. If Tanner is anywhere near as good as his daddy, he will be quite a player.

Re: Ironton Football 2015

Here are some Ironton schedule updates I found on the OHSAA website: The OVC Football Preview will be played at 5:00pm on August 15 at Ironton. That is just 3 weeks from Saturday. Ironton will play a "Jamboree Game" scrimmage against the Cleveland Knights in Ironton on August 22. While it ...

Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.

I'm with OSU 77 on this. Palladino ought to be playing at no more than 190-195 pounds. You almost have to be a physical freak like Ezekial Elliott to try to run halfback at 225, and Palladino ain't that. High school games are won these days by teams that have the most well-conditioned athletes betwe...

Re: Ironton Football 2015

JC has a very fine football program, and deserves a lot of accolades. But it really comes down to a couple of factors, neither of which reflect poorly on either JC or Ironton. 1. Ironton needed another home game in 2015 to even out the schedule 5-5, especially after logging only 4 home games in 2014...

Re: Ironton Football 2015

I agree with you, ohbuckeye2. Ironton's most successful years were in the 70's and 80's, when the students were strongly encouraged to participate in multiple sports. It started under the Bruney-Trent-Burcham regime and continued under Lutz-Schrickel-Burcham. Once football was over, a kid was expect...

Re: Rule Change for Contact in Post Play

Marshall Coach Danny D'Antoni agrees with you, Dave. Similar rule changes are being made in the college game, and he is excited about how these changes will enhance any team's ability to emulate what he and his brother Mike ran with the Phoenix Suns, where spacing and ball movement were the emphasis...

Re: Defiance 49 Cleveland Central Catholic 45 OT

It is a bit ironic that on the same evening last Saturday, only a few hours after the Central Catholic player got teed up, a Notre Dame player in the NCAA Tournament made almost the exact same offensive move and dunk against the big, bad Kentucky Wildcats, as captured in this YouTube video: https://...

Re: Defiance 49 Cleveland Central Catholic 45 OT

One more point - the official immediately under the basket, and in the best position to interpret the rule on the need to avoid player injury, did not make the call. The guy underneath had a great look at it. It was the official farthest away from the play at half court who decided to be the hero. h...

Re: Defiance 49 Cleveland Central Catholic 45 OT

Great game, but bad call. The call was not made in accordance with the official rule in my view. Rule 10, Section 3, Article 3 of the National Federation of State High School Associations rulebook, which Ohio goes by, states the following: "A player shall not grasp either basket at any time dur...

Re: 3/18 - Ironton 51 Portsmouth 72 (Regional Semi Final)

Gray Tiger, I went back and checked, and you are correct. I got the information out of the programs sold at the Convo for district play, and the record I quoted from the program was for district games only. Sorry about the confusion. It has been a week now since the Tigers bowed out against Portsmou...
