If the rules haven't changed, PHS needed a 75 percent vote to get in. This is the story from the last time they were denied (I think, I don't know what's happened since I left.)

Re: No football preview from the Athens Messenger

The whole thing works both ways. Lower revenue means less resources which means worse coverage. That leads to lower revenue, less resources and worse coverage... Every time someone cancels a subscription, a paper gets a little worse. I don't know whether the chicken or the egg came first, but all th...

Re: Ironton's Bob Lutz - The Coach - Retires

As a reporter, Bob Lutz was no easy man to deal with.

His business was football though, not talking to the media, and he'll be missed for that.

Lord knows I'm glad I don't have to try and interview him again, but I do miss watching his teams play.

If I recall, didn't Derek make All-State as a punter one year too?

Great athlete and he was always a good sport in interviews.

Re: Selection process for the AP all state team

People hate the AP Poll, people hate the AP teams. It's not a perfect system, but it's made up of writers that love their prep sports. It's made up of writers that see as many games as they can, talk to coaches and discuss things with writers who have seen games they haven't. It's not a perfect syst...

Frank,

Good call, on second thought, that wasn't a safe assumption, my bad. I do wonder who voted against the move.

Re: Northwest switching from SOC 2 to SOC 1?

This is a good move. I saw three schools voted against it, I can imagine it was Green, East and Notre Dame. Symmes Valley usually beats the Mohawks and since they're a bigger school, that helps in playoff points, so I guess they supported it. I always thought it would be neat to have some kind of me...

Re: Portsmouth trojans and the s.o.c

This was such a frustrating issue to cover when I worked at the PDT. It had so much interest surrounding it, and such weird context to someone like me that wasn't from the area. From an outside perspective, a school roughly the size of other schools in a league that completely surrounds them and wou...

Amen to that. Good luck and stay healthy to the players. Good luck and stay sane to the coaches. Good luck and stay classy to the fans. Good luck and keep the faith to the writers, editors etc. It'll be strange not to be sitting in a press box somewhere tonight and even stranger knowing that since I...

Nice article in Canada on Gerald Cadogan

http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Gerald+Cadogan+hitting+right+note/4917758/story.html "Gerald Cadogan, presumably, never came close to flinching. Humiliating rookies may be a well-established part of football, but Cadogan, you could say, is pressure-tested. So when the Calgary Stampeders n...

Re: Ohio Schools Vote 'No' On Playoff Reform

I wasn't very clear with my last post and I apologize. I have no doubt that a some percentage of administrators will do that. In the same vein I know there are some southern Ohio public school folks that will bend the rules to get kids from other schools to transfer to their place. I don't think lim...

Re: Ohio Schools Vote 'No' On Playoff Reform

You guys really think private schools are staying below Division enrollment lines on purpose? C'mon. They're not getting tax payer money, the more students they have, the more money they make. The want as many students as possible. I don't think football revenue competes with how much they get out o...

Re: Budget Woes: A Simple Solution

I think the American system give a lot more kids an opportunity to play but we should be open to change to help offset cost. People rail against pay to play policies, then vote down school levies. Parent volunteering at fund raisers is a great start, but we might just have to pay more to keep these ...

Re: Interesting - Impact Transfers Cincinatti Taft

I can't speak for Taft specifically but I went to high school at one of their league rivals (Western Hills c/o 02) and the reason for the small crowd is probably what you'd see at any Cincinnati Public School. There is very little sense of community, little parental involvement and no concept of nei...

Re: AP All-Southeast District

Coaches absolutely give extra to their seniors when it comes to awards in their District teams and like has been said on here sometimes there's nothing wrong with that. My opinion as a former member of the media is that it's ok. It's the Coaches' Team and they can do it how they want. That's why som...

Daluv, People have always found this hard to believe but Oak Hill is to some degree a local team. All the teams in the SOC I and II as well as Portsmouth and Piketon have long been considered the local teams. There are subscribers in all those places. Also who knows, maybe they didn't get a good pho...

Re: question for the PDT

The PDT is in rough shape, no argument here. I see errors in it all the time and when I worked there I made my share. When a staff as small as theirs is forced to put out a daily paper with beyond unreasonable deadlines they have to make a choice. They can either move as fast as they can, get some c...

They did cover the game, but with the deadlines it went online, not in print.
