Re: Fairland 12 - 20 Portsmouth

VERY PROUD of the Trojans on their win.......down 12-6 in the 4th quarter, huge playoff implications at stake, and the offense up to that point did not capitalize on several opportunities deep in Fairland territory. Our kids lived up to the Trojan nickname in their comeback. The defense played its b...

Re: G.O.W. WK9 Ironton @ Gallia Academy (OVC Chip)

The condition of the field may play a very big part in the outcome. Haven't seen Ironton yet, but when I watched my Trojans lose to Gallia, I saw an offense by the Blue Devils that can run and pass with equal ability. I do agree with smurray in that I think the Fighting Tigers have played a tougher ...

Re: Dropping Rivals

Portsmouth dropping Wheelersburg still burns me. A big money game, a traditional rival since the early 70's, and a school that is DV just like Portsmouth HS.......and only 8 miles separate the two. To give an example of why you should keep playing a rival, in 1965, Portsmouth lost at home to Middlet...

Re: Best Coaching Staff in SEO?

I totally agree with beergogglebluez's mention of Portsmouth's Bruce Kalb.......he took over a program that was 30-70 the previous 10 years prior to his hiring.......are there any coaches in the SE district who have done a better job considering where Portsmouth football was before he became HC? The...

Re: What teams in SEO are playoff locks?

If Portsmouth can beat Fairland and South Point, it most likely won't come down to the Trojans having to beat Ironton to make the playoffs. The one scenario I don't want to see is the Trojans having to play Ironton 2 weeks in a row at Tank Stadium, which is a possibility with a 1 vs. 8 or 2 vs. 7 ma...

Re: Best QB in SEO?

He has been underpublicized, but sophomore QB Drew Roe of the Portsmouth Trojans is one of the key reasons why PHS is 6-1 this season. Roe consistently has been around 150 YPG passing, and has demonstrated the ability to manage the position, either with timely running or simply throwing the ball awa...

bbjunky81: Somebody from Jackson will have to answer your question......when I saw Jackson play in the summer, I didn't know any names of the players, and I didn't see anybody taller than about 6-3.

football life: I didn't see anyone with any notable size, but I'm not sure if Jackson had their whole team or not at the shootout. Most of the time a team is missing a player or two in summer ball.

Re: 2019/2020 Gallia Academy Blue Devils Basketball Outlook

Gallia has some holes to fill after losing 4 starters, and even though I think the Blue Devils will be competitive, I look for Fairland, South Point, and Ironton to probably battle for the OVC title. An above .500 season is likely, maybe in the neighborhood of 12-14 wins and a middle of the pack fin...

Re: Jackson Ironmen 2019

I saw Jackson this summer at the Marshall Shootout, and I was very impressed by the Ironmen. They beat a good Ironton team 34-32, and even though it was summer basketball, I could tell that JHS had a good starting 5 and some capable subs. They will be a prime candidate to win a district title in D2....

Re: Who's going 10-0 this sesason?

I was at the Portsmouth--Gallia game, and I can say first hand that the Blue Devils have some speedy backs, capable WR's, and an athletic QB. Of course the Trojans have issues on defense, but from the eye test GAHS has above average quickness and speed. The Armstrong kid at TB for GAHS is really fas...

Re: WK5 Portsmouth (4-0) @ Gallia Academy (4-0)

THEBuckeyes: The Cadogen brothers, Nate and Gerald, both played at Penn State and are currently on staff. A newcomer this year to the staff is Jaylen Kennedy, who played for the Trojans around 2010. Coach Kalb played for Portsmouth. There's a lot of football playing experience on staff right now, wh...

This post isn't about the game, because game by game posts bring about the same thing as to what it takes to win........I felt compelled to put Portsmouth's football resurgence in perspective to those who are not familiar with how far we've come since Bruce Kalb became head coach in 2018. From 2008-...

Re: Top 10 Offenses in SEO

I can only speak for the Portsmouth Trojans. Scoring 40 PPG through 3 games, and averaging around 150-160 yards passing in addition to having Talyn Parker as the home run threat at RB, with Tyler McCoy getting some good yards also. Sophomore QB Drew Roe is emerging as one of the district's best QB's...

Re: 2020 State brackets are up

The SE district will have a tough time getting any school to the state this year. I don't know who would have the best chance, maybe New Boston, although the D4 regional will be difficult, with Berlin Hiland always a threat, and Grandview Heights also a contender. In D3, North Adams and Zane Trace l...

Re: Minford (3-0) vs. Wilmington (1-2)- Week 4

Portsmouth split with Wilmington in a 2 game series about 7-8 years ago........the Trojans won the first game at home 14-7, then travelled to Wilmington the next season, blew a 24-7 lead in the 4th quarter, and ended up losing 27-24 in OT. I believe the scores are correct.

Found out yesterday that Portsmouth will open the season at home vs. Piketon, and new coach Kyle Miller. Don't know the exact date but the game at South Point will now be the 2nd game on the schedule, and the OVC opener.

Re: SEO HIGH SCHOOLS (ALL TIME TEAM STATE TITLES & R/UP'S, ALL SPORTS)

pol pot: Portsmouth East did win the state baseball title in 1973. I think one of the stars for that Tartan team was Jeff Welch. Lucasville Valley won the state baseball title in 1975, and Howard Harness was one of the outstanding players on that team. It's been quite a while ago, but I hope I'm cor...
