Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

Moses Guthrie: Thanks for the inclusion of that Wheelersburg game. Don't remember that one, probably because I was in the Air Force stationed at Scott AFB Illinois during that time (1984-1988).

Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

Just heard the other day that the participation numbers have been holding steady at around 36. With August starting next week, hopefully they'll be a few more deciding to play. If the number stays under 40, that's as low a count as I can remember.

Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

SiderBlood: My apology for not mentioning your Senators. I just tried to name games off the top of my head. Probably the two games that standout the most are the ones you mentioned.......the playoffs at Ironton in which West won 27-18 (I think that was the score), after the Trojans beat PW in the re...

Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

Thanks for the additional games, PTrojan59. You're absolutely right about the Fairland game. That one really stung because there's no way that the Dragons should have been allowed to run another play.

Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

With the smell of footballs in the air, I compiled a list of 26 random, notable games from the PHS past.....recent and distant. I'm sure some of these will bring up some memories, some good, some not so good. Don't know the exact years, so the games are post-2000 unless otherwise noted. Playoff game...

Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

Heard that 36 kids showed up yesterday.......hopefully the number will increase some, although I'm not expecting a big jump. I wonder how many of the 36 were freshmen.

Have to have depth; lack of it can be a huge factor in the W/L column.

GO TROJANS!!

Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

fielddaddy: Portsmouth and Ironton will continue to play each other; they've played for over 100 years and I would be shocked if they discontinued the series. As far as leaving the OVC, I will miss it because PHS had developed some good rivalries. The SOC should be a lot of fun because there will be...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

One player that has hardly been mentioned that has improved a lot is Jay Lofton, who will be a junior this coming season. He has shown that he is capable of handling the PG duties, most likely as a backup to Connie Thomas or Daequan Woods. He is a threat from 3 ball land but can also take it to the ...

Re: 2025 Portsmouth Trojans

BuckeyeBlood: Outstanding post on the 2025 Trojans. Probably the most interesting battle for a starting spot will be at QB. From what everybody I've talked to has told me that Marquez Locklear should be the starting QB. Very good arm and mobility. We've made the playoffs every year that Coach Kalb h...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

Portsmouth ran it's final record to 8-0 in the Rock Hill League with a 44-40 win over a talented Huntington St.Joe team, and followed that with a 61-38 win over the Green Bobcats. The win over HSJ was one of the best of the summer for PHS, as the Irish have some very good individual talent. They als...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

The Trojans defeated Western Pike 57-36 and Ironton St.Joe 49-17 at the Rock Hill League on Thursday, then made a quick rebound from that to win all 3 games at the North Adams Shootout. PHS beat Western Pike 59-38, host North Adams 42-39, and then bested Felicity (Clermont County school) 60-46. So f...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

The Trojans don't have a lot of size on the summer roster, with the two freshmen Mekhi Berry at 6-3 and Liam Livingston at 6-2. Berry easily plays about 6-5 with his hops. He dunks with ease. There's a couple of kids who have some size that haven't been showing up for June basketball. Hopefully they...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

The Trojans won all 3 games at the Eastern Brown Shootout, beating Oak Hill 58-37, host Eastern Brown 60-57, and then ended with a 48-41 win over Lynchburg Clay. Other than the Ohio Dominican Shootout in which PHS went 0-3, the Trojans are 10-0 as they have gone unblemished at Eastern Brown, Rio Gra...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

The Trojans won all 3 games at Rio Grande Saturday, as they bested Symmes Valley 45-38, Lathan Western 60-33, and Point Pleasant(WV) 55-35. PHS is now 7-3 in all summer games, including 4-0 in the Rock Hill League. The offense has looked much better than it did 2 weeks ago, as there is much more bal...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

The Trojans pushed their Rock Hill League mark to 4-0 as they easily defeated Minford 43-24 and South Gallia 60-32. Coach Smith had 8 players available, including the "Fab Four" freshmen of Mekhi Berry, Joe Greene, Liam Livingston, and Manny Thomas. I can never recall a PHS summer team in ...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

Art: The earliest that Logan will be available is August, and that is still uncertain. He should be medically cleared by the start of basketball season. Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2024-25

Portsmouth upped its summer mark to 3-0 as they defeated Coal Grove 33-24 and host Rock Hill 40-28 in the Rock Hill Summer League last night. The Trojans' tenacious defense won the 2 games, as the offense was sluggish throughout the night with too many players standing around in the half court. The ...
