Re: PVC

Surprised Bridgeport joined, but it will be strong in the girls sports.
Bridgeport's football field is no more so Bulldogs will play home games at Martins Ferry on Saturdays.

Feel bad for Fort Frye. Wouldn't mind seeing Shadyside vs. Fort Frye on a regular basis.

Re: PVC

I believe it finally folded. There's going to be a new league starting this coming fall - the Mid-Ohio Valley League.
Monroe Central, River, Magnolia, Shadyside, Frontier and Bridgeport.

Fort Frye, Caldwell and Shenandoah were in PVC. Now only in OVAC.

Re: Tom Metters, former Athens Messenger sports reporter, passes away

So sad to learn this and I regret not staying in touch with him these last couple years.
I'm sure the good people at Athens HS will find it in their hearts to name something in Tom's honor.
Will miss his stories at the state boys hoops tournament.

Re: RIP Tom Metters

Known Tom since my days at OU. Only heard about his passing this morning in our local paper. May it be a lesson for us all if you have a friend you haven't been in touch with in years go visit or call. He really enjoyed talking SEOhio sports, the Bobcats, and the Reds. A deserved Hall of Famer in ev...

D6 Shadyside needs a Week 2 game

Shadyside needs a game second week of season. Already have away games weeks 1,3, and 4, but willing to travel.
Tigers should be good despite losing star QB Coggins and RB Banco.

Re: 3/9, D4 regional final,Peebles vs Shadyside

Have seen Shadyside's girls play enough that the only way you beat them is to get really physical with them. River, one of its rivals, knew how to beat them. Did it twice. They will always find someone open for a 3. Peebles will need to play good hard defense, but my money says Tigers stay out of f...

Re: 3/9, D4 regional final,Peebles vs Shadyside

Shadyside lives and dies by the 3. Will be tough to beat although River beat them twice. The Lady Tigers have some shooters. Have not seen Peebles play but Shadyside has already played one game on that floor. That has to count for something. Hope it's a good game. Expect it will come down to free th...

Re: F F / Shadyside

Liedtke's team faced a really strong River team and rallied from 9 down with 3:23 left.
Shadyside had it's hands full with Beallsville.
Tigers better bring their 'A' game. And to think FF's roster is stacked with underclassmen.
Lady Cadets by a whisker.

Hornyak was unbelievable. Once scored 86 points in a game. Starred at Ohio State. Should've made NBA roster with his shooting abiity.

Great job Beallsville and River.
Lady Blue Devils overlooked most of season in 1-A division, but came to play at OU-Eastern today.

Lady Pilots won OVAC 2-A title last year so that's a pretty good team. Schedule got them ready.

That was a close one, but Beaver Local came back in 4th quarter to beat St. Clairsville 52-51 in 4A title game.

Re: Boys state rankings

At least what happened in KY didn’t happen in Ohio yet. A school that closed 2 YEARS AGO received votes in a poll. I think the name of the school was South Floyd. That's hilarious. South Floyd H.S. I recall one year a local TV station wanted to know the score of a game so they called the local news...

Re: Zanesville to LCL

The PVC is kaput after this school year. FF would be too strong in sports for the TVC. Would they opt to be independent?
Zanesville needs to make up its mind. The LCL might be a good fit.

Re: What's with the Portsmouth Daily Times

IMO sports writers should stay off their cellphones while covering games. If you're going to tweet everything that happens at a game what's the sense of buying the paper the next day? Everyone wants to be a social media star with followers galore, even sports writers. Do your job and cover the event.

Re: Fort Frye (6-0) vs River (6-2) 12/20

Had to be a heckuva game. Fort Frye has been the standard for girls basketball under coach Liedtke.
River has a good team and playing teams like FF and Parkersburg South will help them come tournament time.

Re: 2019 Trimble vs. Fort Frye

Magnolia returns a quick little RB in Jason Beisel, who's moved from River to Beallsville to Monroe Central to Magnolia since grade school, but can take it the distance. Also RB/MLB Silas McKeever and a heckuva linemen in James Stillwagoner.
Finding a QB will be the key..

Magnolia vs. Fort Frye would be great. Cadets return a ton, Blue Eagles about a half-ton, but it's a good half ton.

Re: 2019 Trimble vs. Fort Frye

A Trimble/Fort game would be worthy of Gridiron Glory game of the week coverage.
I think if FF buys its way out of the Monroe contract it could get done. That is, if Trimble can get same week open.
