Re: OHSAA continues to grapple with an 'alarming shortage' of high school officials

I was an OHSAA football official for almost 30 years and I will offer my opinion as to why I gave up my license and stopped officiating. The simple answer is that I stopped enjoying the process. I loved the games themselves and the road trips to and from varsity games. However, it became increasingl...

Re: 2018/19 St. Joe Flyers

St. Joe won and while I don't remember the score the margin was just a bit more than 20. Something like 74-52 or so.

It is pretty much complete at this time. Still need to get the bleachers installed and finish up the locker rooms but it should be ready by Opening Night.

Re: SOC 1

Coach of the Year should be who did the best job with the talent at hand. Did the Coach help the players make strides as individuals during the season can also be included. It shouldn't always go to the team who won the league, but in a lot of cases, that coach usually does the best job. I've seen ...

Re: SOC Soccer

With the addition of Ironton St Joseph, it will even out the 2 divisions a little. I am not sure it will have any impact on SW continuing their string of SOCI championships, but it will make things more interesting. SW may not be in favor of this because it will take away 2 of their out of conferen...

Re: Ohsaa proposal moving ALL playoff games to Friday.

I also see a major problem with officiating. Gonna be some bad crews getting first round games with them all on one night! Officials only work one playoff game per week. Playing all the games on Friday wouldn't add more officials to the pool. The OHSAA does use officials to evaluate other officials...

Re: Week 7: Ironton (2-4; 2-0) @ Coal Grove (3-3; 2-0)

I agree but everyone makes mistakes. Not to defend anyone but most mistakes are made on those odd situations that don't occur often. Point is, things happen. I saw the play and doubt the punter would have picked up a first down. Plus with the CG turnover right after that play, Ironton wasn't damaged...

Re: Week 7-- Gallipolis at Minford

Good win by Minford. they have a pretty nice team Gallia not very good this year. Minford boy was robbed on pick 6 as a great block was ruled block in back. the kick out of bounce was really close but from filming in press box looked like right call to me. But that was the worst officiated game I h...

Re: Week 7: Ironton (2-4; 2-0) @ Coal Grove (3-3; 2-0)

A punt may be fielded and advanced by either team if it is behind the line of scrimmage. Ironton should have been allowed to advance that loose ball. Honestly, I didn't think the officiating was all that bad. Sure, they made some mistakes but that's going to happen. To think these guys tried to chea...
