"In everything that you do in life, you stick with it, you believe in
your game plan, you don’t give up and you keep believing," Persin said.
"Our motto the guys started this year was 'we believe.' Our players did
that. They really believed we were going to win it."
Alexander was efficient as possible on its romp to the state title. The
Spartans never had a letdown
for even a set. They had no weakness that a team could exploit. They won
seven games in the tournament—
all sweeps. They didn’t just win a state title, they embarrassed all of
Division III by how easily they cruised to victories.
The other three state champions all lost at least three sets throughout
the tournament. The Division I champion — Olmsted Falls—finished a
perfect 29-0 but lost to Alexander in a preseason scrimmage.
