Have to admit I'm a little surprised SSU would be ranked so highly. They lost a lot from last year's 31-1 squad. You're talking about losing....

Becky Babione - She was the AMC Player of the Year, an NAIA DII First Team All-American, the team's leading rebounder and second leading scorer, and the school's all time leader in blocked shots. Plus, she had the ability to hit the outside shot, which really stretched defenses out.

Kelly Wagner - Averaged 10 PPG. and 5.8 RPG. Probably SSU's strongest and most athletic player, which created matchup nightmares for opponents. She could get to the basket just about anytime she wanted; plus, take smaller defenders inside and post up. Was money from mid-range and a heck of a defensive player as well.

Shy Johnson (What happened to her?) - AMC All-Freshman Team selection who averaged 10.5 PPG. Very similar player to Wagner in that she was strong and very athletic. The one player the Bears had who could create her own shot and score from all three levels (spot up and hit the 3-pt., pull-up and knock down the mid-range jumper, & get to the basket). Could really lock down on defense too. I thought she had the potential to be an All-American.

Those are three significant losses. With that said though, I'm sure that RHS and her staff will have the girls ready to go! Good luck! I'm looking forward to following them during another fantastic season!

I agree.... The polls @ the NAIA level are based a lot on what you did the previous year.....

Oh wow! It's not everyday you see someone make the jump from SSU and the NAIA to DePaul and the 17 ranked team in the country in NCAA DI. Sucks for the Bears, but I'm happy for Shy! I definitely wish her the best!

I wish Shy the best of Luck at Depaul. She'll really need it when they play Coach B. and the Lady Panthers ;-) The game i'm looking forward to seeing is the SSU/Georgetown College (Ky) game. A couple former Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers play for the G'town Team...

Girl's kick off the season with a 64-51 win over Marian last night.

A couple of other interesting notes from last night. #4 Hastings College beat #3 Davenport University 74-72 and #6 Jamestown College puts it on #2 Northwestern College 80-63.
