Southern is actually pretty decent. They could give RV problems on the outside as they do have speed. Raiders gave to contain well. However, I thunk RV has the potential
To put up some points in this one. Raiders by two scores.

i think they will struggle badly trying to stop the rv offense, not enough athletes.
southern qb looks suspect to me,just needs to fill out and he is not fast at all.

Southern has had two very strong junior high teams the past couple years. I will be interested to see how the kids progress through high school. My guess is Southern will hang tough through first half but in second half RV's size and depth will begin to takes it's toll on Southern. My prediction RV 42-13.

A few years back Southern Jr. High went 5-1 and 7-0 in consecutive seasons. It never translated into Varsity wins.

Havent seen Southern this year!!! IF RV has an achilles heel its overall team speed!!!! But I think that they will easily overpower Southern in this one!!!

Raiders 44
Tornadoes 12

Good luck to both!!!!

Are you kidding me? These are the kind of comments that prove you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about! Southerns QB is one of the best athletes in SE Ohio and has good speed. He is however a sophomore this year and will continue to grow and learn his position. I'm sure starting varsity QB as a freshman helped him with that tremendously.

ok,that's your opinion and i wouldn't rank him in the top 1000 in southern ohio he is a sophomore and a great kid who grew prob 3 inches and looks like he weighs 120lbs,what do you use to classify someone as a great athlete? just wondering

southern actually had some good classes coming,rv has won 4 or 5 games in 3 years. this game makes sense, hey southern upsets them big points for playoffs. i don't think so though i think sg will beat southern.
i would say since the old ad is from racine there is prob a tie,i would imagine the same amount vinton county got from our ad lol

RV better wrap up the WB. They had a little trouble wrapping up in the jamboree at some points in the game. Tackling at RV has been historically poor. They will get to him but they have to bring him down and not let him get in the open field.

RV 13
Southern 12 F

Lewis came in during the 2nd half for RV, which was a interesting call. Not the game that was expected, but 1-0 is 1-0! :)

Dropped the bubble screen 3 times the 1 time it was completed TD!
Nose tackle struggled all night with the quick snap, southern will figure in the TVC race!

A win is a win. I think the Raider faithful is reading too much into scrimmages. I really don't see them dominating anyone on their schedule. Southern isn't bad, as I said previously. For a program as poor as RV has been in their past, don't expect them to go full throttle and be able to blow out teams every week. Just expect them to be able to score more than their opponents.

Great Job Southern, I don't think anyone expected the game I/we saw tonight. Took RV down to the next to last play to get it.
I think if Southern plays like that the rest of the year, they're going to do very well.

YES GREAT JOB SOUTHERN!!!! Nothing to be ad about, those kids are tough!

One big factor to tonights game is if RV has a healthy Austin Lewis,he had 11yards and fumbled on his first carry and is still not close to 100%,if he played healthy the whole game i think RV wins by several scores,he is a big factor,Especially on Defense!!! RV looked like a young team tonight and some times resorted back to their old ways. Over perusing on defense not staying home, not keeping contain by the DE. These things can be corrected and they battled to get a win even though it was ugly,Dominant team? Not yet! I thought the QB broke and ran too soon several times but his decision making was good overall. I think they are some where between a 4-5-6 win team as long as they improve and get better, they will be fine. Southern was strong and had a big good line, their QB is not a good passer at all,our safety just came up and let them catch 2 bad floated passes around the goal line, discipline!!!
They are in position to make plays on defense, just don't hit and wrap up,a few times the DB's even looked scared to make contact to me. I thought the OL was a bright spot and will improve. Got to get that run defense corrected, again a lot of sophs playing! I don't care they are still fun to watch,
Also the 1st week of the season is the week when the big surprises take place, huh Nelsonville?

That kinds like a typical RV team on defense, but that lack of discipline can be corrected. I am always baffled as to why RV teams have trouble tackling. It has always been that way. I just simply don't know why that is. O think this team will be fine. I do think Southern is better than advertised. Adenauer will definitely be a test for the Raiders next week.

Because many of them don't play any sports coming up and are not gamers which is built playing in contests and knowing what it takes to get it done no matter what it takes,I don't think they play backyard tackle football like we used to,that is where skills confidence are made, and in the past they players were not strong, this team is lifting but it takes more work. Southern had 3 good skilled position players handling the ball, and we missed Lewis in the middle!! He doesn't arm tackle!! If he can lay a couple smackdowns early on kids it kinda sets the tone! Having Him and Brown in the game on Defense at the same time means the middle is physical, really physical! plus Brown is freed up to pursue,I thought Dovenbarger played really well at DE tonight especially on that XP attempt.
