Unioto 35 Vinton County 15

Postby SouthernOhioParent » August 15th, 2012, 12:20 pm

Vinton County: Behind 3rd year coach, Justy Burleson, the Vikings are looking to turn things around behind sophomore quarterback, Andy Long, their athletic offensive line & their tall, fast wide recievers. Only problem is their defense.. Can their defense step-up and get stops when they need it? Or will the Vikings be giving up 40+ points every game again?

Unioto: With great losses due to graduation, can the Sherman Tanks continue with their winning ways against the Vikings? With a very disappointing year in the past season, the Tanks are looking to get back to their winning ways also.

Goodluck to both teams this season. I'm looking forward to a great, hard hitting game. The 24th can't come soom enough.

Who wins and why?

Does anyone know how Unioto has looked in their scrimmages?

Unioto is going to be a physical team. Their offensive and defensive lines are going to be very good as long as they stay healthy. With Vanderpool having half a season under his belt at QB, and the return of Hudson North, the Tanks have a chance to be pretty good. They appear to have better than normal numbers. Their main weakness in their scrimmages appeared to be their DB's, and depth in the backfield.

My guess on this game is Unioto 32-Vinton County 20

Hoping the Jamboree Games are a good predictor of how this one will go, Unioto beat Washington CH(5-5 last year) 14-0 and was up 7-0 with the varsity in, while VC tied Huntington(0 for their last 36) at 26, but was down 26-7 at the half with the varsity playing.

I'll take Unioto in their home opener, 27-6

VC controlled the tempo vs Huntington. The Vikings were much more physical. Huntington was overall very quick. VC found themselves down because of 2 turnovers and multiple (laughable) calls by the referees. If the Vikes learn to wrap up this week at practice, you will see a different outcome. Imo, Huntington's "streak" will end very soon. They were heads and shoulders better than SE.

What kind of offense does Unioto run? The Vikings seem to struggle against the spread. Mainly the run out of the spread more so than the pass oddly enough. I think this will be much closer than last years as imo will be the case the whole season for this much improved VC squad. These boys are stronger, faster, taller, and anyone who thinks its just VC ...well, they'll be surprised.

I'm rarely right about HS football, but I hope I am this week. I like Unioto's athletes, especially early on in the season. I'd love to see a good, physical, hard-hitting game that's closer than I predicted on Friday.

Huntington should be much improved, they've got a year in under a good, young coach. Week 2 should be the end of the streak, if not earlier.

Has anyone heard how severe the injury to Matt Smallwood was??? Did not look good, as he was carried off the field at halftime.

I sent a message to our AD. Waiting on a reply. It looked like they were working on his knee. I did hear that his parents took him to the hospital at halftime. Hopefully its nothing more than a sprain.

Latest news on Smallwoods injury. No broken bones but he has an appointment this week to check on ligament damage. Hopefully there is none, but even if that's the case, he'll most likely be out for a little while.

Tanks roll 35 to 15 and game wasn't even that close.
The pick 6 that was called back was a horrible call.
The out of bounds fantom late hit was bad.
Not stepping off the face mask penalty at the end of the 1half unexceptable.
And to top it off trying to call too many players on the field was just embarrassing.
The zebra had to count em three times before he admitted he missed that call.

Unioto scored on two fumble recoveries for tds and a punt return. The rest were on long runs. Unioto also kept there starters in until 3 minutes to go. If you take away the 2 fumble touchdowns and add the two wide open sure touchdown drops by VC ...this game could've gone the other way.
I was very impressed with the sophomore and freshman laden Vikings. Vc will be a force, very soon. I hope Burleson remembers Unioto trying to pass out of the gun with 4 minutes left up 38-15.

Come on man you gotta hold onto the football and make those catches. Game wasn't close even with the herd of lost Zebras on the Vikings side. Score at half should have been 18 to O. VC Scored once against the complete starting defense of Unioto but continue your what ifs. Kenny Bixx move to Frenchtown we have room for YA!

Good opening W for the Shermans. They have to get better at PAT's and kickoffs, which I think will come this week, but overall, I liked what I saw out of the team overall. They caused a lot of turnovers and made the Vikings pay for their mistakes.

If VC holds onto the ball, they've got a chance to compete this season. Lots of athletes and I liked the QB a lot.

Now Unioto travels to Greenfield to battle the McClain Tigers on Friday night. They haven't beat McClain since the 1st game of their series in 2006, so it would be a nice win to get.
