The Vikings travel to Nelsonville for the final game of the regular season. The Buckeyes are currently 7-2 (4-1) on the season and a win will clinch a tie for the TVC Championship with Athens.

NY is also fighting to clinch a playoff spot in Division V, Region 19.

Vinton County is having a down year, and is currently 1-8 (1-4).

This will be the 42nd all-time meeting between the Buckeyes and the Vikings. NY has played Vinton County more times than any other school, having played every season since consolidation, except for 1973 when the Vinton County Teachers Strike cancelled that years game. Every game since 1970 has been a TVC League Game. The first three games in '67, '68, and '69 were non-league games when NY was in the SEOAL.

NY has dominated this series - of the 8 wins by Vinton County, only one win was by more than one touchdown, and 4 of the 8 were by 1 point. Vinton County's last win came in 1999.

NY leads all-time series 33 wins, 8 losses
1967 Nelsonville-York (H) 50-8
1968 Nelsonville-York (A) 40-6
1969 Vinton County (H) 14-12

After Friday night we will have swept the decade!! 10 in a row!!!

I look for the Buckeyes to come out fired up and looking to finish off strong!!! The Buckeyes won't overlook V.C., but they need to be careful because the Vikes have nothing to lose and everything to gain if they knock off the Buckeyes!!!

Week 9 is over boys! Lets get ready for week 10!

NY--49
VC--18

This could be bad news for NY, win or lose your playoff chances are in jeopardy. The last game isnt a quality win. 1 secondary win and caldwell burg and LU creeping up!

But all they can do is go in and win and see. Personally I'd like to see NY and Burg get in and not LU and caldwell. Hope it turns out!

NY should be ok...
That's if
1.) They Win vs. VC
2.) Athens wins vs. Wahama
3.) Liberty U or Wheelersburg lose

I still think if NY and Athens both win...it should be enough to keep them in the Top 8 ...

If not, they still share the TVC-OHiO Crown with Athens, and will have had a great (8-2) football season ...

Good Luck to NY!

N-Y wins this one then has to hope for some help to make the playoffs if the numbers that Joe Eitel are showing are correct and I'm pretty sure they are. Looks like N-Y must win and have 2 of 3 behind them lose to safely make the playoffs. Just take care of your business Buckeyes and let the numbers fall where they may.

Although NY is the favorite and should win this one going away on paper...i dont think it will be a shutout. VC's special teams play has been very good this year with a couple punt returns for touchdowns. VC has also managed a few long touchdown plays via pass and run this year. The Vikings managed 2 touchdowns in the slop at Alex last weekend(one long drive, one 98 yd run) and i feel like on the turf at NY they should at least manage a touchdown or two. The Vikings have nothing to lose in this one and im sue will throw everythingbut the kitchen sink at NY. It could possibly be the last game for the current coaching staff as well...i look for a somewhat competitive game for the first half...then NY should wear down the Viking defense which will probably be on the field for a good portion of the game. Good luck Vikings

I don't think we will shut VC out. I think we will score a lot of points on them but they will score a couple of TD's!!!!! They will come out fired up and ready to play.

Since NY has played Vinton County more times than any other school, I think it was only fitting that they play each other in the final week of the season this year and last. Believe it or not, 2008 and 2009 were the only scheduled Week 10 matchups between NY and VC in the history of the series!

Through unexpected events, NY did play VC in the final game of the season two other years prior. In 1972, NY and VC played in Week 9, while NY had an open date in Week 10. So technically, VC was the last school NY played in '72, even though it was a Week 9 matchup. In 1977, NY and VC was scheduled for Week 9, but a severe storm postponed the game. NY went on to play Alexander in Week 10, and then played Vinton County the following Thursday as a makeup game, so the makeup game was technically the tenth opponent for NY that year.

Athens will win easily and so should N-Y so what happens in the points if at least 2 of the 3 behind N-Y win because both Liberty Union (WJ) and Wheelersburg (PW) should win and the Caldwell game should be a toss-up with Shenandoah ?

Just guessing but if Minford, LU, Coal Grove, or Wheelersburg lose were in. If not we could be on the outside looking in.

This one will be over quickly, with the JVs seeing plenty of action in the second half. Coach Boston will show some class and keep it respectable.

NY - 46

VC - 7

Good luck to both teams, play hard and stay injury free!

This is totally unrelated to the topic at hand, but I needed to ask this to NY posters.....did NY add boys swimming/diving as a team sport this year? Check this out:

We might have 1 kid who does it. If so then we would have swimming and diving! When I was in school we had a girl who was a swimmer. She was the only person in the school who swam and she was really good. She would drive to Athens from Logan every morning and after school to practice. Whenever she won the school could hang a banner if they wanted.
